Royal Holloway's Men's Basketball team in a huddle

Want to meet new people, discover a new hobby or simply have loads of fun? Our student groups are the heartbeat of life on campus and with more than 110 to choose from, we’re pretty confident something will take your fancy.

Nothing shapes your university experience more than the people you meet and the experiences you share together. Our student groups are the perfect way for you to get the most out of your time at Royal Holloway and we’ve got something for everyone.

Find your passion

We recognise that all our students have a talent that they shine in. Be it sporting prowess and the ability to knock a cheeky rabona top bins, to passionate debating on current world issues… or perhaps you have dancing abilities that would make Craig Revel Horwood score more than a four?

That’s where our student groups come in - our sports clubs, societies and media outlets each have their individual area of focus and unique personalities. They’re always on the lookout for new members so get involved and meet new people today!

Clubs and societies

Fancy running around campus with a nerf gun as part of a week-long survival tag game? It may sound mad but you can make it a reality with Humans vs Zombies!

Or maybe you’re a keen singer? There could be a part for you in Absolute Harmony – the biggest and best a capella choir on campus!

If it’s sporting endeavours you’re after, our clubs offer a mix of recreational, competitive and performance-focused opportunities.

Whether it’s a casual game of Ping Pong or vying for the league title with Netball, you’ll soon know what it means to be part of the Bears family. Get in contact with the individual club for more information on how to get involved.

Our sports teams compete in a number of competitions run by British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and London Universities Sports Leagues (LUSL). We’re also looking forward to the long-awaited return of Varsity – the biggest clash of the year as we take on our local rivals the University of Surrey across a range of disciplines. We can’t wait to welcome the Stags back to Royal Holloway in the ultimate test of pride, passion and skill.

Media outlets

Broadcasting around campus, Surrey and beyond, Insanity Radio 103.2FM is our resident radio station. With a schedule of chart, chat, and specialist shows, plus news broadcasts, you’re guaranteed great music, great presenters and great coverage.

Orbital Magazine distributes a monthly magazine with a variety of articles ranging from artist interviews to breaking news stories. Find up-to-date news about what’s happening on and off-campus in their online articles.

Collaborating with societies, the Students’ Union and the local community, rhubarbTV create all kinds of online content from live streams and newsreels to game shows and dramas.

Student group memberships

Memberships for societies, clubs and media outlets will be available to purchase during September so keep your eyes peeled for more information. You can also attend our Freshers’ Fair on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 September and speak directly to the groups to find out about all the great stuff they get up to.

Covid-19 update

Although the government’s lifting of restrictions means that many group activities can take place as they would have done pre-pandemic, the University is still enforcing some rules on campus to best look after the student population. There will still be some expectations to wear face coverings, limits on event capacities, and the expectation to socially distance in rooms around campus. We will give all groups a briefing on this information and ask all students to play their part by following these campus restrictions.
