More affordable food options.
I've been building on work started by Vaishnavi Vajja (VP Wellbeing & Diversity 2025-26). So far, I've:
- Kept the joint EWD Collective coffee loyalty scheme running.
- Launched Union Shop Essentials with 50 food and household items sold at, below, or close to cost price.
- Introduced a £4 Hot Meal Deal at our bakery, Break. This includes a hot main (any bake, potato/cheese dog, halal nuggets or chicken wings), a hot side (wedges, curly fries, cheese and onion roll, or a vegan or regular sausage roll) and a can of drink. For a £1 extra you can upgrade to a coffee!
- Begun work to bring TooGoodToGo or similar bags into the Union Shop, cutting food waste and giving you another cheap option.
- Rolled out Spotlight Meal Deals at Tuesday Market Day with Bana, providing a cheaper meal rotating between vendors.
Safety and security on and off-campus.
- Worked with the SU venue team to upgrade the security cameras in the venue, improving both quality and coverage.
- Helped revise our entry and exit processes and guest management systems.
- Been working with Campus Watch to make it clearer who's responsible for what when incidents happen on nights out.
- Drafted a Local Community Improvement Plan to submit to the council, focused on pathway improvements (including the Piggery Gate crossing), transport, street lighting, and how safe students feel in Egham. I'm now seeking backing from local businesses and stakeholders.
Got thoughts? If there's something you'd like to see on either of these, like a product missing from Essentials, or a spot in Egham that feels unsafe after dark, please get in touch and email president@su.rhul.ac.uk.
