Priority 8 Update: VP Wellbeing & Diversity

I’ve been working on lots of things ahead of all of you arriving, mainly supporting our Community Officers with their campaigns, including Campus Unity Week, which celebrates the different communities, cultures and identities across our student body.

Hello Hello!

I’ve been working on lots of things ahead of all of you arriving, mainly supporting our Community Officers with their campaigns, including Campus Unity Week, which celebrates the different communities, cultures and identities across our student body.

I’m also supporting the Festival of Languages & Culture, run by International Advice, as well as other campaigns led by Community Officers, including Black History Month and Disability History Month.

A big part of my role this year is making sure our Community Officers feel supported, so I’m arranging 1:1s with them to offer peer-to-peer support, whether that’s around their roles, campaigns or anything else they might need.

Alongside Derwen, our LGBT+ Community Officer, I’m also part of the Supreme Court Task & Finish Group, looking at how we can better support students following the Supreme Court ruling and in line with EHRC guidance.

I’m also leading on a few campaigns this term, including Wobble Week, which is all about helping students find balance at university and connecting them with the support available, alongside the Advice Centre and Psychology Society. I’ll also be working on MENtion It, focusing on men’s mental health and wellbeing alongside Matthew, Josh and Nathan.

My priorities:

More diverse food options on campus

I’m currently working with Matthew on introducing ‘Spotlight Meal Deals’ during Market Day to give students more affordable and varied food options. I’m also looking at increasing the range of food in the Community Cupboards and SU Shop, including options that better reflect different cuisines and dietary requirements. I’ll be attending the Catering Steering Group to bring student feedback directly to the table and push for change, while continuing to support cultural and faith initiatives such as Campus Unity Week and Ramadan.

Extenuating Circumstances

I’m currently meeting with University staff to better understand the EC process and identify where students need clearer information and support. I’m also looking at how we can bring EC support into campaigns like Wobble Week and Stressbusters.

Alongside Josh, I’ll be promoting the Extensions and Extenuating Circumstances policies, particularly how they can help students manage the pressure of deadline stacking.
