Royal Holloway Netball

Netball 2020/21

About Netball at Royal Holloway

Netball is a group of around 40 girls who make up four teams; we all play in two different leagues: BUCS (South East England) and LUSL (London). All teams train twice a week as well as playing twice a week in the two different leagues - part of the reason why netball tends to become such a close-knit group of friends. We are lucky enough to have two professional coaches - Shelley and Freya - who both have vast experience playing netball and are always a great support. Over the last two years we have amazing seasons: beating Surrey in the 2019 varsity match, collecting an amazing awards at Colours Ball and raising nearly £1000 for a charity combating homelessness to name but a few of our highlights. We are keen to maintain this level of hardwork and excellence in the coming season!

Contact us and keep up to date via Instagram (rh_netball) or on our Facebook page (Royal Holloway Netball).

Raising money for charity is also an important aspect of being a part of Netball at Royal Holloway. As a club, we are extremeley passionate about a variety of charitable causes and ensure that we spread our fundrasing over numerous charities. For example, our Charity Netball event in January 2020 raised an outstanding £445 for Cancer Research UK. Furthermore, during lockdown the Netball club ran, walked and cycled 1000K to raise awareness for domestic violence, raising a total of £435 for Refuge.

These two charity fundraisers are just a few that we are involved in throughout the academic year and in 2020/21 we hope to be more involved in charity than ever before through the use of our Netball depop account which is dedicated to Black Lives Matter charities; Show Racism the Red Card and The Bail project.

We hold weekly socials every Wednesday in Medicine before going to the SU, although optional, attendance is encouraged as they provide a fantastic opportunity to really get to know your teammates! These socials have weekly themes such as Mean Girls, under the sea and the club favourite Come In Your Kit just to name a few. On top of this, we also have day trips planned for example going to watch netball superleague matches together. Official annual socials include the Christmas meal and Club awards at the end of the season. Excitingly we are also planning a netball summer tour 2021... watch this space.
