One way that we regularly do this is through You're Valued - our year-round rewards scheme that allows you to celebrate the work of all the staff who work within the College. It's your way of thanking people who consistently go above and beyond to make your life better at Royal Holloway and to embody the values that we and the College promote.
We know that this isn’t an exhaustive list of everyone who has gone above and beyond across the campus to make student life better, but here are a few of our You’re Valued awardees from the 2020/21 academic year:
Ailson J. de Moraes
(Senior Lecturer in Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship)
Ailson was nominated by several students for his passionate, engaging and high-quality teaching. His students also recognise that Ailson wishes to see every student succeed with one person even crediting him for their desire to pursue a Masters degree.
Lisa Fell
(Technical Operations Manager, Department of Electronic Engineering)
Lisa is praised by her nominators for being the heart and soul of the Department of Electronic Engineering. From fostering a family-like environment to providing outstanding support, students praise her for going beyond her departmental responsibilities to help them achieve their best. Lisa is also credited with helping students both emotionally and academically throughout their studies
Professor Alan Gange
(Professor in Microbial Ecology)
Students who have taken courses with Alan nominate him for the way he surpassed the boundaries of online learning to continue to produce a course full of engaging and fun practicals. As well as being incredibly engaging, he has also been a fantastic tutor and mentor to students, supporting them and helping them excel.
Dr. Lydia Hanna
(Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences)
The student who nominated Lydia praised the quality of her lectures, which are in-depth and engaging, as well as the extra materials for students to engage with through further reading. Her modules allow for those taking it to test their knowledge at multiple points throughout the course, and students say Lydia is available at any point for any questions.
Dr. James McEvoy
(Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences)
James was nominated by students who value his passion for helping them to succeed. Those who nominated him praise his quick and effective feedback, engaging teaching methods and compassionate approach to working with them.
