Resits.

What is a Resit?

If you are asked to take part in resits, this means that you have to retake an assessment you failed without redoing the teaching. Resit marks are capped at 40% for Undergraduate students and 50% for postgraduate students, with some exceptions for extenuating circumstances.

If you failed up to 30 credits (Undergraduate) or up to 40 credits (Postgraduate), you can retake the relevant assessments in the Summer Vacation Assessment Period. The provisional dates for the 2021/22 Period are 22 August 2022 - 2 September 2022.

If you have failed too many credits, then you will have to wait until the next academic year, to resit your assessments.

For standard resits, there are some costs. For this academic year, 2021/2022, the resit fees are £105 per 15 credits and £140 per 120 credits. Modules with higher credits will be charged in accordance with the charge listed e.g 30 credit module is £210 (15 credit x2). The maximum charge for resits is capped at £460. Fees are due at time of enrolment, not at the time of the resits.

Undergraduates: You will get your results at 10am on 15 September 2022 via Campus Connect. If you pass all your required assessments, you will progress to the next academic year. If you do not pass, your School will be in contact to discuss your options.

Postgraduates: Your resit results will be published in the Autumn term alongside your final results.

First Sits/ Uncapped Resits?

You are able to retake these assessments in the Summer Vacation Assessment Period. The provisional dates for the 2021/22 Period are 22 August 2022 - 2 September 2022.

EXCEPTION: If you are a first year who has progressed to their second year of study but has a module eligible for retake, you will have to wait until the next academic year, 2022/23 to do so.

There is no charge for these resits.

Repeats

You must repeat all course assessments and re-engage with all the teaching again. Marks are not capped for these assessments.

As you are required to re-engage with all the course content and activities, repeats cannot occur until the next academic year, 2022/23.

There are costs for repeating modules. You will be charged on a pro rate basis according to the number of credits in the modules you are retaking. It is worked out as: (Number of credits taken/full credit load) x applicable full time fee.

Example: A HEU student is repeating 3 modules of the BA Economics course in Year 3. Each of the modules is 30 credits so the student is taking 90 credits so the fee owed is: 90 (repeating credits) / 120 (full credit load) x £9,250 (full-time fee) = £6,937.5
