Medicine Live ft. Arcade Hearts
Join us for our weekly live music night on campus, where we'll be showcasing the talent from across the UK. This time, we'll be joined by indie-disco band, Arcade Hearts.
Arcade Hearts is the story of four friends, all consumed by their love of music and then finding it with this band.
It all started in 2016 when, having attended a show in Gosport, on the outskirts of Portsmouth, the four of them – Daniel Surridge-Smith (vocals/guitar), Frankie Drain (guitar), Harrison Adams (bass) and Brandon Squibb (drums)- decided to pool their resources together and to start making music, whether that be in bedrooms, living rooms or any one of a number of friends and families makeshift rehearsal spaces that would take them.
In July 2017, the band self-released their debut single ‘Honey,’ a track resplendent in its melodic nous and one that was awarded Clash Magazine’s Track of the Day, who called it “a buoyant, biting indie pop jammer.” Plaudits for the song didn’t end there, with recognition coming from publications as far afield as Italy, Netherlands and Japan.
2018 looks set to be the year the UK falls for Arcade Hearts. The band have already performed a BBC Introducing Solent live lounge, had new track ‘Running’ supported by none other than Huw Stephens at Radio 1, played The Great Escape and City Sound festivals, bagged a support slot with Fickle Friends and played an instore at indie haven Rough Trade Records. This will be topped off with a hometown headline show at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth.
With new music planned for the autumn, more gigs and the aforementioned headline show at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, the future for Arcade Hearts looks bright.
After the live music, you can show off your musical skills as we'll be hosting a free-for-all jam session.
