Rum Festival

Dating back to the 17th century, rum was created simply as a way to find something to do with the ‘waste’ product molasses created during the sugar production process. Rum has long been associated with those who travel the seven seas, from pirates to Her Majesty’s Naval Service, who were originally rationed a daily pint for every man. This influence is still present with brands like Captain Morgan, Sailor Jerry, Pyrat and Kraken. No longer a cheap and cheerful plonk, rum is increasingly being seen as a sophisticated option, with sales in the UK hitting £1billion in 2017. Ahoy there!
