Comedy Night ft. Simon Brodkin

Join us for a night full of laughter, as we host our very own Comedy Show headlined by "the world's most famous blagger" Simon Brodkin.

Line-up

Simon Brodkin

Untameable prankster and acclaimed character comedian, Brodkin has hit global headlines multiple times for his high-profile stunts. Most famously he handed Prime Minister Theresa May a P45 form during her keynote speech at the Conservative Party Conference, and showered disgraced FIFA President Sepp Blatter with hundreds of dollar bills in bribe payments "for the North Korea 2026 World Cup bid".

Appearing multiple times on BBC One's Live At The Apollo, as guest and host, Brodkin has also showcased his talents as writer, star and creator of BBC Three's ratings smash Lee Nelson's Well Good ShowLee Nelson's Well Funny People, and the 90-minute special Jason Bent's World Cup's Best Goals, Ever!

Other TV and radio credits include Sunday Night at The Palladium (ITV), The John Bishop Show (BBC One), Absolutely Fabulous (BBC One), Children In Need (BBC One), and a highly anticipated return to BBC One's Let's Dance for Comic Relief, reaching the final with an impressive hip-hop ballet performance of Swan Lake!

Fresh from a critically-acclaimed sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, we're delighted to welcome Simon to the SU before he takes his debut stand-up show 100% Simon Brodkin on a nationwide tour from February 2020.

Tania Edwards

Opening the show will be Tania Edwards - a stand-up comedian and writer whose credits include Stand Up For The Week, Twit of the Year (Channel 4), Mock the Week, Après Ski (BBC2), and The Unbelievable Truth (Radio 4). She recently supported Katherine Ryan on her sell out tour.

Tania was a finalist in the Hackney Empire, Amused Moose, Leicester Square, Latitude, and Funny Women competitions. Her last solo show Tania Edwards: Electrifying was named in James Acaster’s 'top comedy picks' for The Guardian, Glamour magazine’s 'top female comedians to see at the Fringe', and The Mirror’s 'top five jokes of the Fringe'.

‘Akin to a female Simon Evans… a bit posh and something of a sociopath… fantastically seamy side to the material… also great with audience banter… sublime… brilliant’ – Chortle

Phil Ellis (MC)

Phil Ellis is an award winning comedian who has entertained audiences of all ages with his amalgamation of off-beat observational material and physical comedy.

Solidifying his reputation in 2014 with his undisputed anarchic sleeper hit of a show Funz and Gamez, Phil won the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award’s panel prize. After meeting incredible critical acclaim, Funz and Gamez was broadcast as part of BBC Radio 4’s Fresh from the Fest, as well as part of BBC Comedy Feeds (BBC Three). The show went on to have an 18-show run at the Soho theatre, slots at all major comedy festivals, as well as a further run at the Udderbelly on Southbank.

Phil’s most recent Edinburgh show, Phil Ellis is Alone Together (But Mostly Alone) (2016) continued this success.

Phil’s TV appearances include Drunk History: UK (Comedy Central), as well as writing and performing credits on BBC Three’s The Tapeface Tapes. Phil also co-wrote three comedy shorts - Phil’s Ill - for Dave.  These won ‘Pick of the Day’ status in multiple publications including The Times, The Guardian and The Daily Mail.
