Free Contract Checking Drop-Ins

As viewings are underway, we want to make sure you don’t sign a legally binding document without understanding your rights and obligations.  Tenancy Agreements are notoriously difficult to get out of, so this decision is not to be taken lightly.

If you have viewed a property you like, ask the landlord/agent to send you the tenancy agreement for checking and share it with the Advice Centre who can check it for you free of charge to make sure that you are being given a fair deal. Either email it to advice@su.rhul.ac.uk or come along to our drop-in.

What can you help me with?

  • Help and advice about looking for housing
  • Help finding housemates (try our HouseMating group)
  • Free contract checking - you shouldn’t pay for or sign anything before using this service. However, if you have, you should still get the contract checked so you know what your rights and obligations are and you’re clear about how to get your deposit back without unfair charges
  • Guidance for dealing with problems in your rented home

If you’re unable to make it to a drop-in, simply email advice@su.rhul.ac.uk with your query and an advisor will be in touch to help you soon. You can also look through our housing advice pages for general information.

Please note that problems in Halls need to be reported to Hall Life/Student Services Centre first. If your problem still isn’t resolved, then you can ask us for help.

The Advice Centre is on the first floor of SU building. If you haven’t already, make sure you pop in and help yourselves to some of the freebies and useful leaflets in our waiting room.
