The Student’s Union at Royal Holloway, University of London has secured both a gold and silver award in the national Best Bar None awards.

The Union received its first ever gold accreditation for Medicine and the Stumble Inn, a silver award for Tommy’s Bar and a silver Green Impact Award for the Students’ Union overall.

The Best Bar None Awards aim to reward, promote and recognise the huge efforts that students’ union bar outlets put in to corporate social responsibility and in particular the wider effects of selling alcohol. The accreditation considers all aspects of a union’s bar operations including drink and drugs policies, crime prevention, fire, security and first aid.

Rachel Pearson, SU President said: “The Sabbatical Officers are delighted that the Students’ Union has successfully maintained its silver Green Impact status and would like to thank all the students and staff who helped make it possible. It is important to the Students’ Union to operate in the most sustainable way possible in order to reflect the concerns of its student membership and take its impact on the environment seriously. The Students’ Union will continue to work with the National Union of Students’ in order to raise awareness about green issues and minimize its impact on the environment. We hope to be awarded gold in the very near future!”

Sean O’Donnell, SU General Manager, adds: ‘‘We are absolutely thrilled with these awards and they are a testament to all of the hard work undertaken by our permanent and student staff members. It is also fantastic recognition for our team who have put so much into making our bars and venues a safe and enjoyable environment for the students and guests here at Royal Holloway.’’
