On Wednesday 13 April 2011 Royal Holloway, University of London College Council approved fees of £9,000 for undergraduate students enrolling in September 2012. This increase will not affect any current students or anyone who enrols in September 2011. The Students’ Union representatives who sit on College Council made it clear that the Union has a policy against government cuts to higher education funding and the increase in tuition fees, however despite this Council felt that they could not avoid increasing fees in order to safeguard the institution for the future. The Students’ Union is assisting the senior management of the College with the formation of the institution’s access agreement for OFFA, in order to ensure that participation in higher education at Royal Holloway, University of London is widened as much as possible in light of these changes. SURHUL will also play a key role in ensuring the student experience stays at the centre of the College’s strategic direction under the new fee system, as well as continuing to provide students with a voice about their educational experience at the institution.
