VP Sport, Dom Brown, talks you through the first week of BUCS fixtures for our mighty Bears.

The first BUCS Wednesday of 2018/19 was complemented by bright sunshine, great atmosphere and some fantastic sport being played.

Megan (Sports Clubs Coordinator) and I had the pleasure of being down at the Sports Centre the whole day, welcoming the teams and helping them get settled and prepared for their first big game of the year. While wandering from court, to pitch, to field, we were able to enjoy a multitude of great games being played and support from the sidelines. We also loved being updated on how our teams playing away from home were getting on, so please keep that coming! From the first hockey fixture at 13:00 (a 4-1 win for our Men's 1sts v Reading University Men's 4ths), to the intense Women's 1sts volleyball match at 19:00 which unfortunately ended in a 3-0 defeat to University of Hertfordshire Women's 1sts, I loved every second.

We've been trawling through your social media feeds to find the best snaps from the first round of fixtures, and hockey take the crown this week as they posted photos of their three Women's teams on their Instagram account - @rhhockey.

Stick it to 'em: The Women's hockey teams were all smiles following their first matches of the new season

Megan and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for supporting us through the first few weeks of term and being incredibly engaged and responsive when called upon. I feel that this week set a fantastic tone for the rest of the year and we cannot wait for Wednesdays every week!

P.S. If you want a chance to feature in next week's round-up, email me your best photos. We're also keen to push out any blog content throughout the year so make sure you let me know if there's anything you'd like us to share.
