College strategy away day (definitely not sport) meant that I was busy thinking about strategy instead of sport this Wednesday. However, this meant that I was constantly hounding Megan for result updates and scrolling through Instagram, checking out group posts and stories looking for results.

Highlight Of The Week

Before we look at the BUCS results, I would just like to highlight the Riding C Team who came third in their first meet of the season on Wednesday morning. Megan went down to watch and tells me they performed fantastically so a huge well done to them! Shout out to Elvira, Charlotte and Alice for snagging individual 8th, 7th and 5th!

A special mention must also go to Ultimate Frisbee who picked up a well-deserved win, beating UCL 13-9 in their first LUSL match of the year.

What Went Down?

Many trophy games took place this week, resulting in a number of teams progressing through to the next round. Women's Volleyball surprised Bath with a fantastic performance away from home to secure a 3-1 victory. The Men’s Fencing 1sts secured a comfortable 135-66 win against Cardiff to reach the next round, while Men's Rugby 1sts hit a Herefordshire team hard by earning a vital bonus point on the way to a 43-10 win.

Women’s Football 1sts fought hard to beat Imperial 1-0, earning their place in the next stage of the cup, and both Basketball fixtures inspired positive results as well as entertaining gameplay.

The Men’s team beat Bath 89-77 to progress in the trophy, while the women’s team (which was the highlight result) came through ‘squeaky bum time’ in the last quarter to beat LSE by a single point. The 58-57 win was secured in the last 30 seconds as the girls sealed their place in the semi finals of the cup.

As Christmas approaches and the end-of-term workload comes to boiling point, it's important to keep the momentum going. Keep members invested and manage your time effectively to ensure you are attending trainings and games, to reduce the stress of captains and committees. I will be back down at the Sports Centre on Wednesday and look forward to another week of fixtures.
