STUDENT GROUP ELECTIONS

A massive congratulations to everyone who has successfully been elected - and for those who were unsuccessful this time around, don't be too disheartened! Running in any kind of election is a daunting experience and something you should be proud of yourself for doing, no matter what the result was. The process will give you invaluable experiences that you can use in a CV or job interview. A lot of our groups also don’t fill all the committee positions that went out, and these will need to be filled, and there's always next year’s elections so there are still plenty more opportunities for you to get involved!

If your group has unfilled committee positions, try not to worry! You can view the unfilled positions below and the Student Opportunities team will reach out soon to discuss the next steps.

COMMUNITY OFFICERS

Over the last three days, voting has also been open to elect Community Officers for the 2025/26 academic year.

There are 7 elected Community Officers for the 2026/27 academic year. The PGR Students Community Officer, Parent & Carer and Students of Faith Community Officer remain unfilled due to a lack of nominations. If you are from one of these Communities and want to get involved, please email the Student Voice Team at Voice@su.rhul.ac.uk

Communities lead from the front, oversee any campaigns and activities taking place and ensure underrepresented students get their voices heard on campus and beyond. Communities are completely free to join. Visit our communities webpage to meet the current Community Officers and then hit the 'Join the Community' button to be kept up to date with news and events.

FACULTY & DEPARTMENT REPS

Each Faculty has a Faculty Rep who will advocate for the academic interests of students at a wider faculty-level throughout the academic year. This is a part-time voluntary role working closely with the VP Education, and Department Reps on gathering feedback and implementing positive change in high level meetings such as the Faculty Education Committee and Faculty Boards. This is a new role for the 26/27 academic year which will continue the work done by this year's School Reps.

Each academic department has a Department Rep who will advocate for the academic interests of students at a department-level throughout the academic year. This is a part-time voluntary role working closely with the Academic Communities Coordinator, Course Reps and the Faculty Rep on gathering feedback and implementing positive change through

attending Staff-Student Action Meetings and working with key departmental staff. This is a new role for the 26/27 academic year which will build on the work of our Course Reps and provide more opportunities for you to get involved and be part of the changes you want to see.

The Department Rep for History and Classics and Department Rep for Economics remain unfilled due to a lack of nominations. If you are from one of these Departments and want to get involved, please email the Student Voice Team at Voice@su.rhul.ac.uk

I HAVE BEEN ELECTED, WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?

Firstly, well done! All newly elected Student Leaders will receive an email with more specific information, so keep an eye on your inbox for that. The most important step though is all Student Leaders must attend the Student Leader Conference taking place on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 June 2026. The Student Leader Conference is compulsory for all Student Leaders as it provides fundamental training for all roles. We have a whole range of sessions including networking opportunities, intro to EDI, campaigning, risk assessment training for all student leaders as well as role specific sessions including student group essentials, academic rep and community officer inductions and loads more!

Student Leader conference is taking place Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 June 2026 across campus. You can find out more information on the Student Leader Conference webpage or email Voice@su.rhul.ac.uk
