Dearest Reader,
Word on the street is that the Leadership Elections are now up and running, meaning there are four positions up for grabs. No two days are ever the same at RHSU, but let me describe an average day in the life of VP Wellbeing and Diversity.
I am at my desk at 9am, I have my breakfast in front of me while I reply to and draft new emails. I then do some work around the current or upcoming campaigns, maybe even make some social media content with the other Sabbs (No, we don't do TikTok's for a living, it's 1% of the work we do). As VP W&D, I sit on the university's EDI committee among various other committees and working groups, so there could be a meeting around that. During these meetings, we advocate for student wellbeing and represent student voice. I also closely work with the community officers, get involved in their campaigns and history months.
My biggest work ends up revolving around Priority 8. I reach out to new stakeholders, follow up with the ones I am already working with. I have a to-do list of things that need to be done for the priorities and work on it. For Priority 8, I work with Senior Leadership Team at the University and various teams across both the University and the Students Union. I have meetings with them, make proposals for the ideas I propose and work to make them happen.
I also have students that reach out for help or guidance, I talk to them and signpost them to the right place when needed.
There is no job like this one, you learn a lot about so many things, get to be a part of incredible things! It is also really rewarding to know what you're doing will makes things better for the students that come after you.
Overall, there is so much more to the job than what can be described in a day, if you like what you read so far and want to know more about the role, don’t hesitate to reach out to vpwellbeingdiversity@su.rhul.ac.uk with any questions!
