Virtual awards are fast approaching, and I can’t wait to see your nominations start coming in! Here is your sneak preview at what to expect from virtual awards, as well as information about what awards are up for grabs and, most importantly, how you submit your nominations.

You can read more about why we have decided to run virtual awards and how we came up with this plan in my previous blog.

Event Information

Virtual awards will take place on the SU Instagram (@SURHUL), starting at 7pm. Society Awards are on 26 April and Colours Awards on the 28 April.

Each award night will have a 30-minute countdown starting at 6:30pm and will then begin at 7pm with a live welcome video. The awards will then be announced via an IGTV video every 5 minutes, between 7pm and 7:40pm, with Society/Club of the year being announced at 7:45pm.

There will be a break halfway for you to refill drinks, and over on the @RHSUSocSport Instagram account I will be sharing anything you tag me in throughout the evening that shows your group celebrating awards in your own way!

There are going to be opportunities from the SU that allow you to share your success, including templates that you can add to. We will be tagging each winning group in the story, and we are asking for your group’s Instagram handle on the nomination submission to make sure we can 100% tag you if you win.

Nominations

Nominations open this Friday 19 March at midday and they close at midday on Thursday 1 April. All nominations can be submitted online through the Colours Awards and Society Awards websites, and you will also find all the criteria available to download on the website too.

There is always a rush to submit on the last day, but you just never know if technology will hold out so try to submit your nomination before the final day!

Submit Society Awards Nomination

Submit Colours Awards Nomination

I have created a document with a couple of example nominations to help you, so have a good look over that before making a submission.

On Monday 15 March, we ran Nominations Training to talk you through all the do’s and don’ts of writing a good nomination. If you weren’t able to attend or would just like a refresher, the session was recorded and can be found over on YouTube.

The Panel

The panel will consist of:

  • VP Societies and Sport - Lucy Brown
  • Relevant Student Group Coordinator - Laura Black or Megan Beddoe (returning for panel to provide sports club expertise!)
  • Student Opportunities Manager - Daniel Curran
  • SSO Representative - TBC
  • VP Wellbeing & Diversity - Henn Warwick (for Sarah Remond Inclusion & Accessibility Award and Sophie Christiansen Shield only)
  • ALS Representative - TBC (for Colours Awards only)

How To Celebrate

I will be releasing a blog post a few weeks in advance of awards that has some suggestions for fun and creative ideas for how your group can virtually celebrate, as well as a few surprises, but I’m looking forward to seeing what you plan too!

If you have any questions about awards, this Freshdesk article should be able to help.

If you can’t find the answer, either submit a ticket on Freshdesk, email Student Opportunities, email myself at VPSocSport@su.rhul.ac.uk, or drop me a message on social media!
