What is NUS?

Led by seven full-time officers who contribute to discussions and deliver campaigns, the National Union of Students (NUS) represents seven million students at a national level on a number of different matters relating to your education. NUS promotes, defends and extends student rights utilising their collective power and aims to combat injustices and campaign for better treatment of all students. They do this by bringing together a network of sabbatical officers across the UK and developing research that influences national policy.

What's National Conference all about?

At National Conference, students and officers from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland come together to focus on a number of issues, submitted by students. Every students’ union sends a number of delegates to the conference, on behalf of their students, and this is determined by the number of students each university has. For the 2023 conference, we have a delegation of four.

As a conference attendee you can expect:

1.    Spaces where you can build your communities

2.    Meaningful involvement in shaping the next steps of campaigns

3.    Chances to grow your own campaigning skills to take action.

Why are we having an election?

As standard, your Officer team attend this conference on your behalf to represent your views and feed into the topics raised by students across the UK. This means that Maia Jarvis (President), Shrijeet Shrey (VP Education) and Hannah Hockin (VP Societies and Sport) will be attending the conference, but due to the recent resignation of the VP Wellbeing & Diversity, one position remains vacant.

The delegate rules of the NUS National Conference state that all delegates must have been elected by a cross-campus ballot. As your Officers are the only leaders who are elected in a cross-campus ballot, we are calling an election to fill this remaining post.
