Hiya everyone, hope you had a lovely summer! Here is a broad overview on what I have been working on over the summer and my main initiatives for my Priority 8 😊
Financial Support
My first priority is to enhance financial support for students I am currently working on three key initiatives.
-
Firstly, I have been planning a Financial Support Week (w/c 10 November) in collaboration with the Money Advice Team. This is a week-long initiative offering practical tools, expert advice, and tailored resources to help students manage their finances. Each day will follow a dedicated theme these are Money Talks Monday, Budget Tracker Tuesday, We’ve Got You Wednesday, Tips & Tricks Thursday, and Future Friday to address key aspects of student financial wellbeing. Keep an out on the RHSU website for more events coming soon.
- Secondly, in collaboration with Emma Mayhew (Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience) and Poppy Coates (Women Students' Community Officer 2024/25) it had now been decided the number of on-campus locations offering free period products will increase from 4 to 12. New locations include Bedford, EWD, Founders East, International, Katherine Worth, Moore, Shilling, Sports Centre, Queens, Windsor, Wettons Annexe, and the SU. This is starting in Freshers so there should be free period products in these locations now.
- Thirdly, I am introducing two community cupboards which will be installed and launched in November to provide students with free non-perishable food and essential household items.
Parking
My second priority is to improve parking on the Egham campus.
- This includes producing social media content to show you where all the car parks on campus are and raise awareness about the different types of permits you can apply for.
- I am currently creating a document to highlight all the busy and quiet times of each car park.
- Delilah the Commuting Students’ Community Officer and I will be running a focus group on the 23 Oct 13:00 – 15:00 in Tommy’s Lounge where you can come and have your say with what would benefit you in regards to Parking. While you are there you can also make a keyring!
- I am also having conversations with the University about what we can achieve this academic year.
