Increase social and study spaces
In the last blog, I told you that relating to social and study spaces I was working on the new Student Lounges and getting spaces in Egham. Since then:
-
I’ve secured the Pride Hub and the Egham Literary Institute as community partners in Egham for our Student Groups to book for events.
-
Two new student lounges have now been fully opened on campus in Wettons and Shilling building.
-
I’m continuing to work with the University on departmental common rooms and securing even more student lounges on campus.
Reduce deadline-stacking
On deadline-stacking, the work I have been doing is working on short-term tools to alleviate pressure on students, while working on long-term goals for 2026/27 on how deadlines are set. The main actions I’ve taken are:
-
Working with Vice-Deans on Assessment Visualisation tools to help students see the weighting and date of assessment for all modules together to allow prioritisation.
-
Continuing to lobby for the week of deadlines to be released at the time optional modules are selected.
-
Undertaking focus groups in November with students to better understand when students want deadlines, and how students interact with authentic assessments.
