Since my last blog and alongside the campaigns I am running, I've continued being busy working on my Priority 8. Read below to see what I've been up to for each!

Reduce deadline-stacking

On deadline-stacking, I’ve continued to work on short-term tools to alleviate pressure on students, while working on long-term goals for 2026/27 on how deadlines are set. The main actions I’ve taken are:

  • I have undertaken focus groups, with recommendations to be shared shortly, to hear directly from students about how they would like to see this priority worked on.

  • Continuing work on assessment visualisation tools to help students see the weighting and date of assessment for all modules together.

  • Advocating for a release of deadlines as early as possible for all students by encouraging rolling deadlines.

Increase social and study spaces

In the last blog in October, I told you that relating to social and study spaces I was continuing working on the Student Lounges and getting spaces in Egham. Since then:

  • The Pride Hub and the Egham Literary Institute are still available for students to visit or for student groups to book, and I am pleased to say that the Sam Beare Hospice and Bookshop can also be reached out to book the space!

  • I’m also working with University staff on what co-creation can be used in Student Lounges to allow students more influence over their space.

  • I’m continuing to work with the University on common rooms and looking at potential underused spaces could be converted for student use.
