The Sabbatical Officers are working hard on the RHSU Priority 8. Here’s an update from David, VP Societies & Sport, on his two priorities.

OVERVIEW

During the 2025 Leadership Elections, the Priority 8 replaced Officer manifestos and students ranked 20 issues impacting them to decide the final Priority 8. Of these priorities, I am working to have ‘More Student Friendly Timetables’ and ‘More Affordable SU Events’ . Here is an update about all the work I’ve done so far to drive impactful change for these two priorities, and I will be updating you over this year!

More Student Friendly Timetables

This priority will have a slow process to be achieved, because at Royal Holloway, timetables for the whole year are done in September, and the ones for the following year are planned from November. I hoping to be able to make timetable releases earlier, have less early mornings and late afternoons, and to also provide an alternative for students that cannot attend a Wednesday lecture. Check out the action plan here, to find out what I have done so far, as well as what I am working on.

  • I have also been in talks with Barbara Herring, where we discussed how she has implemented condensed timetables for her students, and we are planning on filming a video where we discuss how this has helped her students and how it could be a very positive impact for other students.

More Affordable SU Events

For this Priority, I have had the privilege of working with the SU Venues team to ensure we can provide events for our students that are high quality and worth the money. The action plan for this priority can be seen here

  • When it comes to quick wins, we managed to provide various free events for students to attend during freshers, which took place at Packhorse, and have now implemented 50 free tickets on the door for each night club, guaranteed until 10:30. We have now shared this on our social media as well.

  • I am working on improving clarity on the use of generated funds, by doing a similar breakdown to Summer Ball, where students will be able to see exactly where their money is spent when they go out on a club night.
