Last week, your elected SSO Members for 2025/26 have been voting in the ratification window to ratify new student groups. 19 new student groups have been ratified by SSO Members.
What is a ratification? A ratification is a process to make Student Groups officially linked to the SU. To get ratified, new student groups are required to send David, VP Societies & Sport two documents outlining their financial forecast and the reason behind the group. SSO Members use this documentation to decide if a group’s ratification is approved, denied or to request more information.
Alongside the documentation, SSO Members must consider:
- The Aims and Objectives of the group should support the Union's charitable objectives
- The group must have a sustainable approach to finances, that do not raise concerns or risks
- The group’s activities should not pose a risk to members or the Union's ability to comply with relevant regulations or the Law
Groups that have not been successful in this round of ratifications are eligible to submit again in the next ratification window. Any groups submitting for a second time must make amendments according to recommendations.

New committee compulsory training
Firstly, well done! All Committee Members on newly ratified societies will receive an email with more specific information, so keep an eye on your inbox for that. The most important step though is all new Committee Members must attend committee training led by Issy, Societies Coordinator. Committee Training is compulsory for all new Committee Members as it provides fundamental training for all roles.
Student Leader Drop Ins
All newly elected Committee Members are welcome to come along to Student Leader drop ins. Come to our Student Leader Drop-ins and have a chat with Issy, your Societies Coordinator and Will, your Sports Club Coordinator and they can help you out.
Head on up to the first floor of the Students' Union - there you will find the Helpdesk. Let one of our lovely Helpdesk Assistants know, and they will make sure you will be seen to as soon as possible.
Student Leader drop ins take place Mondays 14:30 - 16:00 and Thursdays 10:00 - 11:30.
