Statement: Alleged Incident at the Union Venue

The Students’ Union is aware of an alleged incident that occurred within the Union Venue on Wednesday 29 September 2021 between a student and our security team.

These allegations, which have been posted to Instagram, are being taken seriously by the Union and we have launched an investigation into the details surrounding the allegation.

To ensure that the investigation reaches a proper outcome, we cannot comment any further on the matter at this moment in time. We understand this will be frustrating and some of you will wish to see immediate action, but we must follow our formal processes to ensure the investigation is robust and fair. We would like to add that should the allegation be proven; the Union will take robust action against those responsible and we will update you in due course.

We would like to thank everyone who has raised their concerns upon seeing the post on Instagram. We encourage you to always report any issues or concerns you have so that action can be taken.

You can report incidents in several ways:

• You can email the Students’ Union President, Henn Warwick, via president@su.rhul.ac.uk to make a complaint. Details on this process are laid out in Byelaw K.
• You can use the College’s RH Be Heard platform which has the option for named or anonymous reporting. The platform is a place for you to report concerns, resolve complaints and challenge misconduct.

If you have been affected by these events and need any form of support, you can contact the University’s Wellbeing department who offer a range of wellbeing support. Alternatively, you can contact our Advice Centre, which offers both in-person and virtual appointments.

Urgent or emergency concerns can be supported by the crisis and emergency services detailed on the intranet or can be raised with the campus security team on 01784 443063. Their number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
