Great news! Tommy's Bar has received a gold award in the Best Bar None NUS Scheme.
This year, Tommy's Bar has achieved a gold Best Bar None accreditation, which is the highest we have ever received as a Union. We received an overall score of 95%, which is 20% more than what we achieved last year, when we received the bronze accreditation.
In the past we have achieved up to a silver, however this year due to the hard work of the Trading Services team, we managed to outdo ourselves and land in the top tier of the scheme.
What Is Best Bar None?
Best Bar None is an accreditation scheme with National Awards supported by the Home Office and the drinks industry. It is aimed primarily at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises.
For Students' Unions, the scheme shows commitment to ensuring all students have access to licensed premises that promote responsible alcohol retailing and provide a safe venue to visit. Students’ Unions have always considered the welfare of their students and Best Bar None aims to recognise, promote and reward the efforts that Students’ Unions place on corporate social responsibility.
This proves that our bars are operated to a high standard, while we give our staff the best training possible to ensure that we look after the welfare of our customers in our venues.
As the project lead this year, I would like to thank all the different teams that contributed to this great result. The Trading Services team was of course the backbone of this, through the ongoing training our student staff is provided with.
However, this success wouldn’t have been achieved without the help of our Marketing team, which has created all of the informative materials that promote responsible drinking and best practice around our venues. Finally, the Student Voice team, through their Union Bus service, contributes to ensuring that our customers get home safely after a night out.
