As part of Wobble Week this year, read this blog to understand how you can help yourself relax and settle into university life.

>> OVERVIEW

Life at University is great, but at times it can be incredibly overwhelming. Juggling competing priorities between lectures, essays, deadlines, part-time work, sports, societies, relationships, and hobbies can often make finding the balance feel close to impossible. This blog aims to give you some tips on managing your time effectively, hopefully helping you find a balance to wobble less, and smile more!

>> Time Management

  • Getting a calendar to help you keep track of your schedule and time block writing essays or preparing work can be a great tool. You can mark different hours for group and independent studies, note of what you want to study and when to have a break.

  • Make sure to add your deadlines to the calendar, as well as setting goals that break down larger assignments into manageable sections. While I work to 'Reduce Deadline Stacking’ as part of Priority 8, this can be a great way to avoid getting overwhelmed.

  • Minimizing distractions, whether that’s turning off notifications on your phone, or setting times where you can't use your apps on your phone can help you avoid procrastination.

>> Taking a Break

While being at university probably should be focused on your academic development, it's really important to take breaks and unwind as much as you can. Whether it’s reading a good book, putting on a comfort show, hanging out with friends, joining one of our Student Groups, doing your hobbies, or eating your favourite food, taking frequent breaks to rest and relax is essential to stop yourself burning out.

>> Getting Support

If you are feeling overwhelmed, you aren’t alone. If you notice you are overwhelmed, burnout, or generally could use some support reach out to someone you trust to talk about how you are feeling. Getting things off your chest will help!

Outside of your networks, the SU’s Advice Centre (advice@su.rhul.ac.uk) are on hand to offer support, as well as the University’s Wellbeing team (wellbeing@rhul.ac.uk).
