Meet your Community Officer

Hello, I’m Jakob! I’m currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Gender Studies and Politics. As a gender non-conforming transgender gay guy, I have a strong passion for queer and trans activism, particularly through an intersectional lens that prioritises listening to and uplifting voices from communities outside my own.

I have a wide variety of DIY hobbies, including making jewellery, clay sculpting, drawing, badge making, and altering clothes. However, I still can't grasp crochet (sad face). I have an undergraduate degree in Drama with Acting, which has cultivated my interest in LGBT+ art and theatre, as well as the politics of transgender representation in media.

For the past two years, I have served as the President of the RHSU LGBT+ Society. I am eager to expand my work by collaborating more closely with the Students' Union to enhance campus life for all queer students. My goal is to engage with the queer community to better understand the changes and improvements that my peers would like to see, ensuring that effective and practical actions are taken to enhance the experience of all LGBT+ students on campus.

• Address Inaccessibility on Campus:For example, lobbying for more gender-neutral bathrooms and facilities across all buildings, clearer signage for these spaces, and working to implement LGBT+ wellbeing representatives across departments for peer support.

• Organise and lead LGBT+ social events regularly, sometimes in collaboration with other organisations like the RHUL LGBT+ Society. Windsor Pride, Pride Hub, and more!

• Enhance Healthcare Support for Queer and Trans Students: Working with the SU to lobby the University for better GP staff training on LGBT+ healthcare issues, as well as developing the Trans Healthcare Information documents that the LGBT+ Society has, so that they are more widely accessible to students.

• Increase LGBT+ Visibility and Highlight Intersectionality: I want to deepen community connections through collaborations with many identity-based student groups, fostering spaces that open up conversations surrounding the vastness of queerness and combat stigmatisation of intersectional identities.
