Mature Students

meet your Community Officer

Hello, I’m James a 1st year Computer Science Student. My lifelong passion for the complexities of all things digital makes studying at one the best universities for Computer Science in the UK, where I can walk by the stunning founders building daily, feel like an immense privilege. During my 1st year here as a foundation student I learned a great deal about the immense responsibility and pressure we all face to achieve our best possible work and stand out amongst the crowd in what is a very competitive and intellectually stimulating environment.

I hope this role will allow me to bring together further and expand our very talented and diverse cohort of mature students spanning undergraduate, postgraduate and PHD levels to make their time at Royal Holloway feel even more memorable.

Community Officer
Mature Students

This year I hope to bring together our mature student community so that they can feel better supported and less alone during their time studying here at Royal Holloway. In order to achieve this, I will prioritise the following goals:

• Encourage the university and Student Union to create more events suited and aimed at mature students for both this year and future-year cohorts.

• Create a well-promoted official digital platform for mature students to meet one another and socialise outside of the world of lectures and seminars.

• Ensure that students belonging to this community feel their voices are being heard just as loudly as those belonging to the younger age groups.

• Encourage greater collaboration and mixing of mature students from different academic departments and qualification levels.
