Parent & carer Students

meet your Community Officer

Hello everyone! My name is Jude. I am a second year undergraduate LLB Law student at Royal Holloway. I have been a carer for my single mother for nearly a decade. I would never change this for a minute. Although this has been difficult, especially with completing all forms of education throughout the years, I learnt how special this experience really is. What it has really taught me. How to truly love unconditionally.

As your Community Officer, I understand your situation and that's not because I have read a book about it. I see you in myself. An apprehensive child not really knowing whether it will work out. I am here to help you guys with this apprehension, especially throughout your higher education. I know this is tough - but it is doable; that's how I always saw it.

Community Officer
Parent & Carer

This year, I want to develop awareness for carer's of parents on campus so that those of you know where to go for a helping head. How I will do this:

• Firstly, by encouraging this engagement I must gain awareness of the department we have here. Last year, I did not even know that there was a parent-carer representative on campus. To achieve this: raising fundraisers and campus signposts to get acknowledgement.

• Secondly, I am here to explore different paths which work for you and your education. As I am part of the board of education here on campus I can liaise with them to explain your circumstances enough so that it may alleviate the work pressure. Similarly, I will be open to conversation via the parent-carer email. I will make sure to answer to all of you that reach out to me. Your voice is sure to be heard through my email text chain.

• I am a committee member of many societies on campus (law society etc) so I want to work closely with them and their departments to express the above and work closer with you guys to make sure your voice is heard. This year I want to make sure the parent-carer representative is really seen so it can be held as a safety net that you can contact when you need.
