Rugby (Women's)

Women’s Rugby is growing. Fast.

To get involved you can be of any size or ability, with the majority of our players having no previous rugby experience before joining our team, we will teach you everything you need to know! Rugby is such a life changing sport, it is arguably the most team- orientated sport there is with every player relying on the girl on their left and right, it builds your confidence, strength, fitness and discipline.

We are entering our 5th season in BUCS 1A, with competitive matches played on Wednesday afternoons. We are also part of a LUSL league with matches played on Sunday’s, LUSL is used primarily to introduce new players to the game and build up confidence and knowledge. We train twice a week on Monday and Friday evenings on the 3G pitch – a great facility allowing us to play all year round no matter what the unpredictable British weather throws at us! After our 15’s season (which is most of the year), we also enjoy 7’s, which is an amazing experience! It is a more fast paced, intensive game but is just as rewarding as 15’s.

As for our social side, well, you should come down and see! Our socials are on Wednesday evenings and you would be missing out if you didn’t try at least one. As well as a very active social side, we also participate in lots of volunteering/fundraising events raising money to charities close to our team’s hearts. We volunteer once a week at a local primary school teaching tag rugby as an after school club, not only is it super rewarding to see so many young individuals so excited to start rugby but also develop our coaching skills. Additionally, we host tag tournaments for local primary school children and run termly sessions at Spelthorne ParaSports Club for children and young adults with disabilities and their families.

Every Wednesday we hold a social in Stumble Inn on campus, or at our sponsor pub the Foresters Arms. Under the Sea, ABC (anything but clothes) or Back to School are some examples of themes for this year! The socials consist of rugby drinking games and banter, followed by a night out at the SU. We also accommodate non-drinkers by holding different types of socials, such as bowling or laser quest.

As a team, we love to praise our members and so host seasonal socials where we hand out certificates and awards; which are too good to be missed! They include: Christmas Meal (at Foresters), Colours Ball and Summer Meal.
