About us

To get involved with Women's Rugby you can be any ability or fitness level, with the majority of our players having no previous rugby experience before joining our team, we will teach you everything you need to know!

Rugby is arguably the most team-orientated sport there is with every player relying on the girl on their left and right, it builds your confidence, strength, fitness and discipline.

Our social side is far from inactive, hosting socials at our sponsor pub, the Foresters Arms, or at other sites around campus, such as Medicine. We’re also very active in the community, regularly giving our time to fundraise for charities close to our hearts as well as volunteer at local schools and clubs, not only is it super rewarding to see so many young individuals excited to start rugby but through this we also develop skills such as coaching.

Membership

We have split the membership costs into termly payments and will release a descriptive finance plan each term. We will be completely financially transparent and ensure that membership cost can reflect the guidelines around COVID.

Typically, your membership throughout the year will get you: a hoodie; access to our training and fitness sessions; the opportunity to represent the team in competitive league fixtures; access to off-pitch opportunities such as socials and other activities. For example, last year we all got tickets to watch the six nation as a team.

We offer a social membership for those who enjoy the social side of rugby, more so than the playing and training side; meaning everyone can be an active part of the club. (Hoodie purchased separately)

Not only this, but the experience gained from Women’s Rugby is priceless, by joining our club you’ll be making friends and skills that last a lifetime.

Events and Activities

Whilst these times are unprecedented, the committee is dedicated to delivering as much of an authentic rugby experience whilst still operating safely within the guidelines set out by the RFU and other governing bodies.

Traditionally we hold:

  • Training biweekly
  • Playing competitive matches most Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • Weekly socials with a new theme each week and sober socials through the year, previous themes and activities have included: ABC (Anything but Clothes), Kids Party, club pizza night, bowling and many more!
  • Community Support activities such as volunteering and teaching Rugby at Spelthorne Parasports club or going into local schools.
  • Fundraising activities such as Pub Quizzes, the annual Freshers Vs. Old Girls Charity match and shoebox appeals
  • Opportunities to develop other rugby skills such as First aid and Coaching; as well as developing you on the pitch!

This term due to COVID-19 we’ll still be very active hosting:

  • Virtual Fitness
  • Training and Socials held in accordance with Government and Social distancing guidelines
  • Virtual fundraising such as online raffles.
