Update: Bright Ideas 13/11

Your weekly update on the progress of your Bright Ideas on how to improve campus!

bright ideas

Welcome, one and all, to the second Bright Ideas update blog! It’s been a busy few weeks for all of us it seems, but that hasn’t stopped you all from putting your thinking caps on and giving us suggestions. But anyways, what exactly is it that’s been happening on the platform? And what have we been doing about the stuff that’s passed?

Working On It

A Discount on your Coffee - We did it! From now on, you can get a 10p discount on your coffee at Tommy’s Kitchen if you bring your own cup! It’s a win-win for your wallet, and the environment. Read more about it here.

Additional Parking on Campus - This is something that has been a problem for a while, since parking spaces are definitely at a premium. With the construction of the Davison building, we’ve seen that space decrease further, which obviously is quite an issue for commuting students. Over the coming weeks we’ll be looking in to what can be done about the space limitations, as well as gathering more data on college’s reasoning for certain decisions, including yellow line placements. Keep an eye out for more info!

More Bike Racks on Campus - Another one for those travelling from afar. Whilst this one didn’t quite reach the 50 votes mark, we thought it might be an idea to take it up anyway. After a discussion with college, we need your input on where you want these bike racks to go! Watch out for coming events, or email emma.underwood@su.rhul.ac.uk to convey your thoughts.

Up and Coming

Access to the Postgrad Research Room for PGT Students- Now this might not affect all of you, but it’s an important one to talk about nonetheless. Following last week’s Education Council, it was apparent that a lot of people are unhappy that the research room in the library has now been closed off. But what do you think? Should all postgrads have access to the room? Or is there a specific need for PGR students to have their own space? Vote here, and here!

That’s your lot for this week. There’s obviously plenty more ideas that have been submitted so be sure to check those out, and we’ll see you next time!
