Blog: Big Bears Wednesday Round Up

Big Bears Wednesday kicked off boldly with amazing sport on display and a vibrant atmosphere with some extra elements that’s you do not often see on a BUCS Wednesday. Players and spectators were welcomed to the sports centre with purple and green face paint and ribbons, good music, and a chance to give their opinions on the Samurai match kit. These elements helped to accentuate the atmosphere and togetherness that is always seen down at the sports centre on a Wednesday afternoon.

What Went Down?

Despite the cold chill and darkening weather, I was immensely proud with how everyone found their Bears spirit and battled hard. Alongside the usual fixtures, we also had Women’s Football and Hockey selling cakes to players and spectators, and Men’s Football kicking off their Movember campaign in style by shaving the beards of members pitch side in collaboration with Cheer.

Women’s Basketball took to the court and delivered a win in the final fixture of the day by beating Chichester, it was great to see the Men’s team supporting on in fine voice. The first fixture of the day saw a friendly between the two Hockey first teams where the two teams had swapped kit. Badminton and Tennis both secured victory, with Tennis smashing their opponents so well done to them!

Men’s Football continued their unbeaten start to the season with a tightly contested 5-4 victory. Men’s Rugby also continue their fine form by beating rivals Reading 27-15. I wish for the smoothest of recoveries for the 2nd Xl player who sustained a rough injury in their match causing for the game to be postponed, so sending my best wishes to him.

Once again thank you to everyone involved, it was fantastic to see sport being put in the limelight. For people who are frequently involved in sport, it is like second nature, but we managed to attract the attention of staff and students who do not often see that side of campus and the amazing things sports clubs have to offer. Keep your eyes peeled for the video and photos that will be released soon! View the full set of results below.
