Bright Ideas Returns

Did someone turn a light on? Bright Ideas is back! From small quality of life improvements through to bigger wins for everyone, this is your opportunity to tell us what you'd like to see changed to improve your university experience!

Did someone turn a light on? Bright Ideas is back!

For those of you who are newer to Royal Holloway, Bright Ideas is an opportunity for students to submit an idea about something they’d like to change to improve their university experience, which then gets voted on by other students.

After our Democracy Review in 2018/19, we decided to take stock. Our Student Voice team has been reviewing how you can submit an idea, how voting takes place, how we communicate with students who have submitted the ideas, and the process involved with an idea - from the moment of submission to its implementation.

After a number of challenges due to the pandemic and the need to redirect resources, we’re now in a place where we can re-launch the platform with confidence that the new changes make a significant difference.

So what’s changed?

  • Ideas will no longer need to hit a vote threshold of 50 in order for us to act - all ideas that are submitted will be considered by the Students’ Union.
  • We’ve created more guidance on writing a great idea to help you get the most out of it.
  • There’s also a new chart to understand the path that all ideas will take to help you understand the processes behind the platform, from submission to implementation.
  • New tags have been introduced so you can categorise the ideas that you’re interested in. This will also help us ensure that your ideas will go to the right place!
  • Refreshed the Bright Ideas webpage to be more user-friendly.

Kicking things off

Your sabbatical officers are kicking things off for us with a few ideas to get you started:

  • Wellbeing Committee Positions
  • Sustainability in the Curriculum
  • Reinstate the Late Night Street Lights
  • Decolonise the Curriculum

So what are you waiting for? Head over to Bright Ideas, check out the new guidance and submit your idea now!
