BUCS Round-Up 11/12/19

VP Sport Dom Brown brings you a round-up of this weeks sporting highlights with a festive holiday twist!

bucssportSports Blog

Yule be happy to hear that today is a festive themed BUCS update and the last one of the year. Even though fixtures are few and far between this week, I will be trying to squeeze some tree-mendously punny puns into this blog!

Badminton Men’s 1st team travelled across the county to our rivals in Surrey, where they sleighed their Men’s 2nd team 6-2 and have consequently gone into the Christmas break with a strong league table position. But second is snow good, so the boys will be pushing hard for a first place finish next term!

Hockey were loving life from head to mistletoe yesterday with wins for both of the 2nd teams. The Men’s team had a BUCS fixture against UCL RUMS and they cruised to a 4-0 victory. The ladies also took on a RUMS side in a rearranged LUSL fixture, they should’ve reigned it in because snow joke… they battered their opposition 12-0 away from home (I‘m genuinely so sorry about these puns).

Women’s Fencing were feeling pine as they continued their unbeaten BUCS record for the year, keep going!

It would be rude(olph) of me to ignore other competition news as Trampolining travelled to Bath for their SUTL competition and they came away with silver medals in both SS2 and S6 women. Congratulations to everyone who travelled and competed over the weekend!

Riding had three teams competing this Wednesday, the B team placed 2nd in their comp at Kings whilst the C team also had a good day, placing 3rd as a team and having individuals placed 4th and 7th. The reserves competed in their first friendly comp and rode extremely well, so amazing stuff team!

Finally, Women’s Rugby played a charity match against each other where they fielded a side of ‘old girls’ vs a team of freshers. This was a well spirited match and seemed a lot of fun for the girls! The result favoured the old guard who beat the freshers 30-24.

With that, I will retreat back to my grotto over Christmas whilst I hope you all enjoy a noel earned break. Merry Christmas everyone, and a happy New Year!
