Introducing a More Inclusive Campus Map

The Students’ Union continues to work together with students and lobby the College to make our campus a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone. As a result of SU President Maia's lobbying, gender-neutral and disabled toilets are now on the campus map!

As a result of my lobbying, gender-neutral and disabled toilets are now on the campus map!

Last summer, a prospective student contacted me and asked whether we had gender-neutral toilets on campus and where they were. It made me realise that we should have a more inclusive map to make sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable navigating campus. I contacted the College communications team and – hey presto – we now have gender-neutral and disabled toilets clearly marked on the map!

The College also use that bizarre half trousers/half skirt symbol for their GN toilets and I suggested that they simply use text that says ‘gender-neutral’ (which is what we use in our venues) since a symbol signifying half man/half woman isn’t really gender neutral. They agreed – woop woop!

I know there is a long way to go in terms of securing true liberation and justice for minority groups on campus and this is just a drop in the ocean. I hope the Students’ Union can continue to work together with students and lobby the College to make our campus a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone.
