Meet Your School Reps: Toby Bates

School Reps play a key role in improving students’ academic experience, working hard to make sure your ideas and concerns are heard at the highest level. If you're from the School of Business & Management, make sure you get to know your School Rep, Toby Bates.

Toby Bates is the School Rep for the School of Business & Management. Last year, he was a course rep for Year 1 Accounting and Finance and achieved loads of things – launching the Accounting, Finance and Management Society, organising feedback lectures, and even winning Rep of the Month!

Tell us about yourself

Hi, I am a 2nd year Accounting and Finance student. Last year I founded AFM and I am the current President. The society is an accounting, finance and management society to help integrate the School. As well as this, I am the treasurer of the Entrepreneurs society and a part of the Finance Team for Asempa, a non-profit organisation.

I was a course rep last year and this enabled me to help tailor our teaching for the students, and this is a reason to why I ran for school rep. I look forward to supporting students and helping them achieve the university experience they want this coming year. In my spare time, I currently am working on a website to help students learn about the core concepts of accounting and finance at university. As well as this, I am apart of the RHUL Rugby and Athletics team.

His exciting manifesto includes:

  • Working with the department to give the best resources for exams and to make sure all lectures are engaging
  • Organising more trips to give real-world experience to students, preparing them for jobs
  • Supporting students with opportunities such as internships and working with the Accounting, Finance and Management Society to give students the best options possible

Toby is passionate about improving learning, great communication between students and staff, and strong teaching and support.

We can’t wait to see what Toby gets up to this year!
