Safely Collecting Your Halls Belongings

Following on from the decision to allow students in Halls to terminate their contract early, we know that some of you have had questions over how you can go back and collect your belongings that may be left behind.

Last week, the government announced that students can return to university to collect their belongings, and the University have published clear guidance on how to do this.

Booking a time slot

It's really important that this collection is controlled and managed effectively in order to ensure that there isn’t a dangerous rush to collect belongings – so following the University’s process is really important.

First of all, you need to book a time slot. This is really simple and easy to do – simply follow this link to book a time slot between Tuesday 26 May and Friday 19 June. Please ensure that the time slot works for you, as it is essential that you turn up in your time slot, and remember to leave enough time to pack and remove all of your possessions. Parking restrictions have been lifted for this period so you don’t need to worry about registering your car beforehand, just park someone convenient to pack up.

Acting Responsibly

It is really crucial that everyone acts responsibly and safely during collection – this isn’t an opportunity for you to have a day out with friends or family. This trip is solely for collecting belongings so please avoid bringing unnecessary people with you, and please do not use this as an opportunity to break social distancing rules and guidelines.

Other important reminders:

  • Remember to bring your College Card so that you can gain access to your flat.
  • Bring bags or containers so that you can easily pack your belongings up and carry them safely.
  • Be mindful of other people (just as you would in other aspects of day to day life at the moment), be wary, and comply with social distancing measures. Particularly, be aware that some people are still residing in Halls.
  • Please do wear your own protecting equipment (e.g. gloves) - the University will also be ensuring sanitisation of touch points during the day.

Students unable to collect

If you have left the UK and are currently overseas, or if you are currently shielding (or living with someone who is shielding) then there are alternative arrangements in place. If you are in one of these categories, then please fill in this form and the University’s Customer Services team will be in touch. It may be that you can have someone else (another member of your family, or a friend) collect your belongings, or the University can recommend courier services. It is really important that you fill out the form and get in touch to inform the University of your intentions – please do not just have someone else turn up unexpectedly.

If you have any questions then please do contact customerservices@royalholloway.ac.uk
