After a six-month hiatus, The Packhorse makes its long-awaited return! We’re thrilled to be reopening our doors on Monday 7 September, welcoming you back in time for the new academic year.

What’s new?

Quite a lot actually! To comply with social distancing guidance, we’ve had to reduce our indoor capacity so things will look quite different inside with fewer tables.

Don’t worry though, we’ve bought loads of new picnic benches and situated them in the car park to massively increase our outdoor capacity, while we’ve invested in some new stretch tents, (and pretty festoon lights), and outdoor heaters to make sure you can keep dry and warm should the heavens open!

We’ve also installed a one-way system, plenty of signage, safety screens, sanitiser stations, and some additional toilets outside.

Like most pubs and restaurants, food and drink orders will now be made through an app – simply scan the QR code on your table to get started! There will be no direct service at the bar and all orders will be delivered to your table.

Do I need to book a table?

To guarantee entry, you’ll need to book a table through our online booking system. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by a host who will take you to your table and make sure you’re all set with our new ordering system.

Please ensure you follow the latest government guidance:

  • You can only meet in a group of up to six people.
  • People from different households (unless in support bubbles) should ensure they socially distance as much as possible.

Anything else I should be aware of?

While you won’t need one when you are seated, we kindly ask you to wear a mask or face covering while walking around the venue. Please follow the one-way system in place, ensure you keep your distance from others, and use the hand sanitiser provided when entering or leaving the building.

Food & Drink

We’ve been working on our food and drink offering over the summer – the biggest change is the addition of a new pizza menu for you to sink your teeth into!

Two For Tuesday no longer exists but you’ll now be able to enjoy 241 on a range of food and drinks from 5pm-7pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Our Happy Hour (241) cocktail deal is still running every day from 5pm-7pm and we’ve introduced loads more non-alcoholic options – check out the app for details.

Our indie night, Transmission, remains on a Thursday night with plenty of £2.50 drinks for you to enjoy.

When term starts, we'll also be running loads of offers including Burger & A Pint, Pizza & A Pint, and a pizza meal deal combo that includes a light bite or dessert, plus a drink.

Do I still get 10% discount with my College card?

Unfortunately, our new app is unable to facilitate the discount process via the College card, and as such the decision has been made to set the menu prices with the 10% discount applied at all times.

We are working with our online provider to develop a loyalty-based reward system for students and as soon as this is available it will be applied.
