Geography

The GeogSoc is a social and academic society for Geographers both within and beyond the department. It provides students with the opportunity to enhance their geographical interests and 'after hours' entertainment by hosting guest speakers and visiting London exhibitions, alongside holding social events ranging from pub crawls to an annual black-tie boat party.

Although members are primarily students studying Geography, all are welcome to attend the events put on. By its very nature, Geography is a very broad and diverse discipline, meaning people from a wide range of backgrounds will find the society’s events of interest. Uniquely, the lecturers and support staff from within the department are heavily involved with the social activities, and frequently attend the events, providing unique opportunities for student-staff interaction.

This year, the committee consists of Hannah Rodger (President), Darren Griffiths (Vice President), Garrett Speers (Treasurer) and Jack Smale (Secretary), who are brimming with enthusiasm to ensure that everyone has a great time, whilst hopefully learning a little something along the way! Several events have already been organised for the near future, including a Pub Crawl around the best water houses Egham has to offer on Tuesday 27th September.

Overall, being a member of GeogSoc is a fun way to enhance your learning experience. The events provide interesting academic and social experiences, and these remain as fond memories far beyond graduation.
