Student Leader Conference.
Welcome to the Student Leadership Conference! Whether you’re a student group committee member, community
officer, or academic rep, this two-day conference will equip you with all the training you’ll need as you enter
your new leadership role in September!
We have a whole range of sessions including networking opportunities, intro to EDI, campaigning, risk assessment
training for all student leaders as well as role specific sessions including student group essentials, academic
rep and community officer inductions and loads more! These are led by a variety of different people such as SU
staff members, University staff members and some student-led sessions too!
Not only will there be a variety of sessions for you to get involved in, on day one you can enjoy a pizza lunch
as you network with your fellow student leaders and at the end of day two there will also be a BBQ social to end
the conference!
There are training sessions that are essential to your role as a student leader. Not only this, it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how you can be successful in your role, how to support your members and advocate for students. You’ll also be able to network with fellow student leaders and chat to various SU and University staff members.
You’ll also gain lots of skills that will look great on your CV!
Who is the conference for?
This conference is available to student leaders only. A student leader is any current student who will be a Committee Member, Academic Rep, School Rep or Community Officer for 2025/2026.
Are any of the session’s mandatory?
There are a few mandatory sessions depending on your leadership role:
- Course reps must attend: Academic Rep induction, Staff-Student Action Meetings and Gathering Feedback & Closing the Feedback Loop
- School reps must attend: School Rep Induction
- Community Officers must attend: Community Officer Induction and Campaigns Training
- At least one committee member must attend Student Group Essentials and Community, Culture and Conduct
- Treasurers must attend Treasurer Training
- Sports Club Presidents must attend Intro to Sport
- Captains must attend Captains Training
I want to sign up but I’m not sure what sessions I want to attend definitely yet, what should I do?
Don’t worry! Still sign up. We want to know the sessions people would like to attend so we can determine the best rooms to use, but you can still attend sessions outside of this!
Who is running the conference?
The conference is being organised by the Student Opportunities and Student Voice team at the Students’ Union! But there’s lots of other experts coming to deliver sessions across both the SU and the University.
No, it’s completely free (including the free lunch and BBQ!).
