March 2026
Diversity in STEM is an awareness campaign held in the month of March dedicated to centring and celebrating the diversity of experiences, identities, and contributions within STEM, while highlighting the barriers faced by underrepresented groups and promoting inclusivity at the university, with a focus on the intersectionality of inclusivity and STEM. This March, Diversity in STEM will be led by Disabled Students Community Officer, JJ Littleton, with support from Makers Society, Women in STEM and SU staff.
The Diversity in STEM campaign has three main objectives:
Education – Creating and promoting accessible information surrounding accessibilty in STEM subjects, celebrating what has been achieved and highlighting what needs changing.
Awareness – Visibilty of roles, resource sharing and through social media and events, signposting the correct pathways and support for all students.
Celebrating Diversity in STEM – Throughout the month, Makers Society will be hosting a social media campaign with weekly themes to spotlight students, staff and other notable figures in STEM who have advocated or empowered Diversity in STEM.
Throughout the month there will be a wide range of events Students and Staff can participate in designed to raise awareness, build community, and celebrate access to STEM subjects. From Engineering Society’s Charity Egg Drop Challenge, events held for British Science Week, Makers Society Soldering Introduction Taster Session and GIAG events. Even if you are not studying a STEM subject, everyone is welcome!
During the month there will also be opportunities to donate to the Royal Holloway Transition Fund. The Transition Fund is mutual aid fund to help transgender members of the LGBT+ Society fund private transition costs. For more information on the fund and how to sign up for it or donate, please contact lgbt.community@royalholloway.su
The campaign will finish with a Community Officers & STEM Course Rep Café on Monday 30 March from 12pm in Tommy’s Lounge to celebrate collaboration and diversity. This event is an excellent opportunity to meet your Community Officers and STEM Course Reps as well as get involved in important discussions to positively impact your community over coffee and cake!
