Women's Rugby
13 November - 12 December 2025
Lace Up for Trans Rights is an awareness campaign that aims to raise awareness and drive solidarity across university sports teams and societies in opposition to the ban on transgender people in sports (particularly the ban of trans women in women’s rugby). This campaign, led by Women’s Rugby want to foster an inclusive and supportive sporting community where trans athletes feel safe, respected, and welcome.
Specifically, we hope to:
- Encourage sports teams and societies to wear trans laces as a visible symbol of support for trans inclusion in sport.
- Educate the wider university community about the harmful impact of trans exclusion in sport.
- Amplify trans voices and promote open conversations about fairness, identity, and inclusion in competitive environments.
How are Women’s Rugby going to achieve this?
- Awareness: Give out low cost trans laces to university sports teams and societies with an explanation of our campaign’s message
- Social media: using Instagram, Facebook and tiktok to create a hashtag campaign and share photos and videos of our message
- Collaborations: partner with inclusive sports clubs, LGBTQ+ society and possibly co-host fundraising events
- Pledges: Create either an online or in person pledge where clubs and individuals can publicly show their support for trans inclusion in sport.
