Big Bears Wednesday 13/11/19

VP Sport Dom Brown runs you through all the sporting twists and turns that took place on one of the biggest sporting fixtures of the term!

Big Bears Wednesday featured a plethora of high profile fixtures down at the sports centre as well as a range of other matches taking place elsewhere. Despite the chilly conditions, the atmosphere was fantastic, so a big thank you to everyone who came down to support and compete.

A great day for Football 1st as both Men’s and Women’s teams ran out as victors against their opponents on nobles. The Men’s team fought hard in a tightly contested game against Sussex and managed to battle to a 3-2 victory. In contrast, the Women’s team thrashed UCL 13-0 as they cruised to victory.

Women’s Rugby faced up against a difficult King’s side on Eastfields. Despite a number of injuries, the girls fought hard to secure a 19-5 victory. On the MY Courts, the Tennis Women’s 1st team secured a win against Reading while the Netball 1st team managed to scrape past a difficult Brighton team 41-40.

Hockey had a couple of winning teams on Wednesday. Men’s 1st continued their fine form this season under captain, Sol Barker, with a 5-2 win over top of the table Reading. The boys fantastic form has intensified the battle for top spot in their BUCS league, so well done and keep it up lads! Meanwhile, the Women's 2nd team took a trip down the A3 to Portsmouth and they were able to come back victorious with a 4-3 win.

Over at Kingswood, Squash Women’s 1st got the psychological edge ahead of Varsity rivals Surrey in a 3-1 win at home. Setting up a nice fixture in March girls! Lacrosse joined in on the action as their late start saw them come out on the right side of a tightly contested game against St. Mary’s with a score of 6-5.

Ultimate Frisbee Mixed 1st team overwhelmed their UCL counterparts, winning 12-4 away from home in muddy conditions. Also, away from Egham, Riding C team placed 2nd in their first competition of the year. Congratulations to the individuals who placed 8th, 7th and 2nd.

Finally, a shout-out to the Athletics club who ran in LUCA 3 on Wednesday on a course that looked incredibly cold and muddy. Well done to the Bears!

A final well done to everyone that competed on Wednesday, see you at Big Bears Wednesday 2.0 next term!
