SU to hold an assembly regarding NUS budget cuts

    Expired
    • Union Idea
NUS President Shakira Martin has announced that “radical reforms” will be made to NUS democratic structures to “drastically simplify and modernise” the union due to a £3 million deficit. These reforms will likely be gutting to democracy, liberation and campaigns. Over 150 student union CEOs, senior staff, managers and presidents met in November to discuss these proposals. But ordinary students won’t be part of the discussion - not even elected NUS committee members have been consulted. The Student Union has until 21 December to give feedback to NUS. It would only be right that the student body at Royal Holloway are made aware of the situation and are able to have a voice through our Union. Other universities are also passing motions for a vote of no confidence in Shakira Martin. I think this should also be discussed if not open to student referendum.

Moderation Policy

Royal Holloway Students' Union values free speech and recognises that debate and lively discussion are important parts of any democratic organisation.
