Council Committee Elections Coming Soon

Over Term 3 we will be electing representatives who sit on our student councils for Education, Equalities and Student Opportunities, find out here.

It’s that time of year where we are looking for enthusiastic students to join our Education, Student Opportunities and Equalities committees for the 2017/18 academic year. If you are interested in running, come along to the meetings listed below, you will be asked to make a short speech on why you want the role so please prepare for this.

Education Committee

The Education Committee, which is the subcommittee of Education Council, will work on the various campaigns ran by the Vice President Education throughout the next academic year as well as implementing the decisions made at Council. The elected representatives will have the opportunity to work with the Student Voice Team on a variety of projects, including the organising of the Student Voice Conference 2018! The Committee is made up of the following positions:

  • Education Chair
  • Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Representative  
  • Faculty of Management, Law and Economics Representative
  • Faculty of Science Representative
  • Academic Society Representative
  • Postgraduate Taught Representative
  • Postgraduate Research Representative
  • First Year Open Place
  • Second Year Open Place
  • Final Year Open Place

We will be electing all positions except the Postgraduate Taught and the First Year representatives at the next Education Council. The Postgraduate Taught and First Year representatives will be elected at the first Education Council in the next academic year. This meeting is on Tuesday May 2nd at 6pm in ALT1.

Equalities Committee

The Equalities Committee, the subcommittee of Equalities Council, will work on the various campaigns ran by the Vice President Welfare and Diversity throughout the next academic year and will also act upon the decisions made at the Equalities Council meetings. Representatives elected onto the committee will be able to work with the VP on a number of events throughout the academic year such as LGBTQ+ History Month and the Mental Health Campaign. The committee is made up of the following positions

  • Equalities Chair
  • VP Welfare and Diversity
  • LGBTQ+ Rep (Self Defining)
  • Women’s Rep (Self Defining)
  • Disabled Rep (Self Defining)
  • BME Rep (Self Defining)
  • International Rep
  • Mental Health Rep
  • 4 x Campaign Reps

These will all be elected at the Equalities Council on Thursday 11th May at 6pm in ALT2.

Student Opportunities Committee

Student Opportunities Committee, subcommittee of Student Opportunities Council, will work with the Vice President Societies and Media and the Vice President Sport on the various issues they campaign on over the academic year. The elected representatives will be able to work with the Student Opportunities Team on a multitude of different projects and events, including the ratifying of all new student groups, Freshers’ Fair, Socs and Colours Ball, Student Opportunities Conference as well as their own campaigns and projects that they undertake with the support of the sabbatical officers. The committee is made up of the following positions:

  • Student Opportunities Chair
  • Activity and Interest Societies Rep
  • Academic Societies Rep
  • Faith and Culture Societies Rep
  • Creative Arts Societies
  • Political and Ideological Societies Rep
  • BUCS and LUSL Sports Rep
  • Martial Arts Sports Rep
  • External Competitions (Indoor) Sports Rep
  • External Competitions (Outdoor) Sports Rep

These positions will be elected at the Student Opportunities Conference on Monday 5th June.
