History Society picked up the coveted Society of the Year award at this year's Socs Ball to cap a night focused on celebrating the success of the Students' Union's societies, media outlets and fundraising activities through Raise and Give.
The night, sponsored by Teach First, saw 550 students head to the Thistle Hotel where Co-President, Societies and Media, Brianna Middleton Macpherson hosted the evening. She said: "The evening was absolutely amazing and I as I said on the night, every single member of our societies, media outlets and RAG have all contributed to the successful year we've had in Student Activities.
"I love Socs Balls, it’s my favourite event of the year because it gives us the chance to recognise and celebrate the achievements each and every one of our members have made throughout the year. With 3333 students signed up to Student Activities, 2440 of them signed up to societies and media, and more opportunities for volunteering and employability events than ever and almost £30,000 raised for charity through RAG already, we really have had the most successful year in Student Activities to date.
"Over the past three years I’ve been involved in Student Activities we’ve grown in size and engagement, and it’s amazing to see that in the past three years we’ve gone from 2900 members to the 3333 members engaged today."
Other big winners on the night included the RAG Committee who won the Co-President's Cup thanks to their fundraising efforts throughout the year while Law Society were awarded the Most Improved Society of the Year.
