Student Councils Round Up

What a week it’s been for democracy! The last few days have played host to Education Council, Equalities Council, and Student Opps Council, and each came with great ideas and suggestions from each of their attendees.

What a week it’s been for democracy! The last few days have played host to Education Council, Equalities Council, and Student Opps Council, and each came with great ideas and suggestions from each of their attendees.

Tell me about the Education Council

We opened on Tuesday with Education Council, where Clem, your VP Education, hosted on the theme of “Space Matters”. The room had a chance to have discussions on the new Emily Wilding Davison building labelling floor plans, before being given a chance to question representatives from the library itself. The second hour of council was taken up by Graham Atkinson, using the time to collect info from attendees on academic representation for his review.

Tell me about the Equalities Council

On Wednesday we saw Equalities Council take place. Chaired by your VP of Equality and Diversity, Willow, there were discussion on the college’s new Equality and Diversity policy, as well as how we can make up for the lack of a health centre. Rounded off by a motion (a Men’s Mental Health Rep), and elections (BME Rep and Disabled Students Rep), it was a great hour of ideas and contributions!

Tell me about the Student Opportunities Council

Finishing off the week we had Student Opportunities Council, this time being headed by Steff and Pippa, your VP Sports and VP Societies and Media. After updates from the Sabbs, we moved on to updates from all your favourite societies, before moving on to talk about Refreshers’, and the Group Development Fund.

If you liked the sound of those, then you’ll love our All Student Meeting! It’s the highest decision making body of the Students’ Union, and anyone is welcome to attend, vote, and share your thoughts and ideas. It’ll be taking place on Tuesday 21 November, and we’d love to see you there! Keep an eye out for the agenda, and remember, the decisions made could well affect you, so be sure to come along to have your say!
