College Card Payments in the SU

We've listened to you and invested over £10,000 on the facilities in Tommy's Kitchen over Christmas. This includes a new kitchen, more tables and seating and the ability to use your college card in the SU!

The Students' Union is proud to announce that from Monday morning college cards will be an accepted form of payment across all Students' Union venues.

This development coincides with a recent £10,000 investment in Tommy's Kitchen following student feedback on what they'd like to change in the Union venues.

Back in March, President Education and Campaigns, Nayab Cheema, stated in her manifesto that she would work to introduce the ability to pay using college cards and she said: "I'm absolutely delighted that we've been able to bring in this change. When running for election this was a key part of my manifesto and was based on the views of students I consulted with at the time.

"Over the past six months I've worked closely with our commercial services team who have overcome some significant technical hurdles to integrate the college card system into our existing electronic point of service systems. I'm certain that the use of college cards across our venues will have a positive impact on students' experience while at Royal Holloway."

The ability to use college cards in the venues comes with a couple of caveats which include not being able to use the cards after midnight or if you have slipped into your £2 overdraft. The nearest top up points for cards is in the International Building although the UnionShop also has facilities for topping up your card.

Tommy's Improvements

During the winter break the Union installed a new kitchen, additional tables and extra seating in Tommy's Kitchen. These changes means the Union can provide a higher quality food offering and gives you a more space to meet up with friends for a much needed break.

On the changes to Tommy's Kitchen Nayab said: "Breakout space is something we struggle with across the entire College and I'm very pleased we've been able to increase the capacity of Tommy's Kitchen. This coincides with our new strategic plan aim to put students at the heart of everything we do.

"Providing more space for them to take a break from their lectures and grab a bite to eat coincides with that aim. I hope to see more students than ever before making use of the improved space."

Throughout January students can take advantage of the Blue Cross Sale that will see special offers available throughout the month in Tommy's Kitchen and the UnionShop.
