A whopping £1,757 will be going back into students’ pockets this week following a resounding success at our first ever second-hand academic book sale, held on Friday 25 May!

You turned out in force for the event and ensured that lots of students will be heading for the summer with some extra cash lining their pockets. Those on the other side of the table will also be delighted, having saved a heap of money by conveniently buying books for their courses at a knock-down price.

What was this all about?

The concept was conjured up so that you could worry less about new finding books or getting rid of old ones, and spend more time getting down to preparing for the next stage of your life. Our book drop day on Wednesday 23 May saw over 1000 books, across all academic departments, piled up at the SU main hall; you priced them up and on Friday we set about offloading them, with the help of our lovely volunteers.

This campus-wide event was a great success and we hope to hold another in the Autumn Term shortly after Freshers’ Week. This will give current first year students a chance to sell their books to new starters, and give other returners another chance to make a bit of extra cash.

A big thanks to everyone who came along, whether that was to buy or sell. And for those who successfully sold books, we hope you enjoy spending your book sale money!

As a membership organisation led by students, we aim to do whatever we can to improve your education. Got an idea for an event to make student life better at Royal Holloway? Email us at students.union@su.rhul.ac.uk – for now, happy reading!
