Whether you’re darting across the country to compete in sport, or buying resources to run an event on campus, there are lots of costs associated with running your sports club, society or media outlet. Luckily, the Student Opps team allocated funding to groups throughout the year!

Whether you’re darting across the country to compete in sport, or buying resources to run an event on campus, there are lots of costs associated with running your group.

The Student Opportunities team is committed to developing student groups and running a series of funding phases and programmes to get more money into group accounts throughout the year.

So far this year, the Students’ Union has allocated just over £40,000 for groups across its funding phases! But how is this funding broken down?

New Group Funding

When a new group has been ratified, we automatically give them funding of a set £100 to help kickstart the set-up of the group.

So far this year, we have ratified 11 new groups, and therefore have given £1,100 to newly ratified groups!

Summer Funding

The summer funding is given to newly elected committee members to ensure an effective start to the year.

One of three funding tiers (£150, £250, and £500) is allocated based on a group’s risk status assessed by the Student Opportunities team and VP Societies & Sport. You can read about factors which determine the risk status of a group in section 4.B of the Student Group Funding Policy Framework.

In total, we allocated £23,900 at the start of the academic year to groups!

Support Funding

Once groups have been active in Term One and have a more accurate picture of their finances, we give further financial support to those experiencing unexpected and difficult costs.

This year, we were able to allocate £11,330 following the Phase 2 Funding Principles & Criteria.

Development Funding

This funding aims to support groups' progression, allowing them to make plans and ideas for development after Term One.

We have already allocated £2,095, and you can still apply! Development funding is open until 28 March, find out more information on Freshdesk.

Competition Funding

Finally, for any sports clubs out there, you can apply for up to £400 to cover entries for competitions!

Nearly £2,000 has been allocated and rising! If you are interested in applying for competition funding for your club there are more details at the bottom of the Student Group Funding Timeline

Not a committee member?

If you’re struggling to meet costs and it’s preventing you from getting involved with student groups at Royal Holloway, the Students’ Union has an Access Fund to support you. The fund can help cover up to £150 for the cost of membership, kit, essential travel, and competition costs.
